• The term equanimity is defined as a state of balance, inner calmness, well-being, confidence and vitality.
This definition illustrates my intention to present Stephen Dyer Clinical Hypnotherapy as an effective professional service in the Mid-Cornwall area.
The power of suggestive metaphor is very important in the dynamics of a hypnotherapy session. It is a way to assist clients to visualize and instruct the solutions towards achieving their prescribed goal. Metaphor acts by using mnemonics; a way of instructing the memory in simple terms so it can easily be remembered for future recall.
• As an example I will use metaphor to give a short explanation of the process of hypnotherapy.
‘In our lives as children we step out into the stream of consciousness and are comforted by paddling in the shallows. Then as we grow older an inquisitive yearning leads us to go where the current gets stronger. We stand at a point where we have to decide do we swim against the current or do we go with the flow. In our folly we swim against the current to find that we are getting nowhere. After time we come to the realisation that we are actually standing in the stream and we decide to go with the flow. As we flow with the current we feel an inner sense of acceleration, like we are getting to the places we need to quicker. Consider when life presents itself as a boulder blocking your pathway in your wisdom you will become as the water and it will always find its natural course. Understand that sometimes the flow can be diverted through stress or trauma causing whirlpools of emotions where people feel trapped and their lives become compounded. If streams represent habits and behaviours sometimes they can become negative and self-destructive. Hypnotherapy can construct new pathways for change, then divert the flow away from the negative habits inspiring success and equanimity with a new lease of life, going with the flow.’
